England suffered a disappointing defeat in the second of their test matches against the USA at Bisham Abbey , a short series as part of the final preparation for the FIH BDO Women's Hockey World Cup in Rosario, Argentina 30th August . Coach Dan Kerry will announce the final squad for Argentina on Monday. The two defeats they suffered were especially disappointing given the teams podium finish in the World Championship Trophy recently and their unprecedented bronze. At Nottingham they had a great run against higher ranked teams beating all but the Dutch , and taking a disappointing draw against wooden spooners New Zealand. USA are currently ranked 10th in the World although the rankings were fixed last autumn.
Alarmingly , in the first match last Tuesday England looked to be heading for a straight 3-0 defeat. USA captain Keli Smith had opened the scoring on 14 minutes followed by a second from Michelle Kasold. Rachel Dawson made it three in second half. However England came back at them and Katie Long managed to pull it back to a respectable score with two goals late in the game, one from a penalty corner.
