Hongkou Stadium, Shanghai

FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick was in the crowd in Shanghai to watch England's Women's team hold world champions Germany to an impressive 0-0 draw, and reflected on a excellent week for England teams.

Barwick said: "Today's performance by the Women's team has capped a very good week for England. To play so well against the favourites here in China was really encouraging. It has given everyone great confidence ahead of the final group game with Argentina on Monday.

"This is a strong tournament, and the way our women are competing now on this stage show the progress we have made.

"It's also been a good week for the U21s. Under Stuart Pearce, they have got off to a fantastic start in their Euro qualification campaign, with superb wins away to Montenegro and Bulgaria.

"Meanwhile, Brian Eastick's U19s put in a terrific performance on Tuesday to beat Belarus 4-0 at Notts County in front of almost 5,000 fans at Notts County this week.

"Obviously the senior team have grabbed most of the headlines and I'm delighted for Steve McClaren and the players that we have got two very good results - and performances.

"However, we're keeping things firmly in perspective as we know we've still got three important games to play. The jobs not done yet, but we've made real progress this week."
