England bounced back from yesterdays 4-3 defeat with a 1-0 victory over their German counterparts in Cologne this evening.

Reading’s Erin Ruxton scored the only goal of the game after 47 minutes when her shot at goal rebounded back to her off the Goalkeepers pads.  She then rounded the grounded ‘keeper to slot neatly home and take the lead.

England’s work rate and intensity was much improved on yesterday’s performance and Coach Sue Chandler was happy with the show.  She commented “The girls maintained a high tempo and intensity for 70 minutes this evening and they have really learnt a lot about what is required at international level. We deserved to win tonight and the challenge tomorrow is to produce another performance of that quality”.

England complete their three match training series tomorrow with the last game at 1000hrs (0900 BST).

These games are part of England’s preparations for the Four Nations Invitational Tournament at Easter in which England will travel to Barcelona to take on Spain, the Netherlands and Germany.  In July, England will compete against seven other nations in Edinburgh in the EuroHockey Youth Nations Championships.
