England Women’s captain hosts coaching session for Folkestone Fillies

England Women’s captain Catherine Spencer will be the guest of honour when she returns home to her former club Folkestone RFC to host a training session this week.

The former Folkestone player, who only moved to Worcester two seasons ago, will help lead a training session for the Folkestone Fillies just two days before she leads England out against the USA in her first international as captain at London Irish ARFC, Sunbury, kick-off 230pm.

It will be double delight for the Folkestone juniors who’ll also get the chance to showcase their talents playing in the curtain raiser game before England’s first international of the season, kick-off 1230pm on Saturday.

Spencer, who started her rugby career at Folkestone at the age of 8 and has since gone on to win 27 caps, said: “The last time I played at Sunbury was in a mini rugby festival for Folkestone. The next time I play there I will be England captain and the Folkestone girls will be playing the curtain raiser fixture for our game. I think that’s kind of cool! It’s great that the Folkestone girls will get their chance to play before an international match.”

Folkestone also have two other England internationals in their ranks in sisters Lucy and Abi Howland, who will no doubt be looking to follow in Spencer’s footsteps.

The club is currently undergoing a massive redevelopment with pitches being upgraded and the provision of an extra pitch. There is increased number of changing rooms to cater for the girls and an increase in minis and junior players.
