The Dutch women’s field hockey team won the six-nation tournament in London held on Sunday as a warm-up event ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
The Dutch women played Australia in the finals. Successive goals by Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel, Maartje Paumen (from a penalty corner) and Kelly Jonker put the Dutch firmly in the lead. The Australians scored just a single goal in reply. Maartje Plaumen’s second goal sealed the Dutch women’s victory with a final score of 4-1.
The Dutch women’s team reached the finals after a hard-won victory over the South Africans. The match ended in a two-all tie, but the Dutch women won the shoot-outs 4-2.
Germany took the bronze medal in a 6-2 victory over South Africa. The 5th/6th place playoff ended in a 3-0 victory for the UK team.
