Drug Aware Pro presented by O'Neill - Margaret River turns on excellent waves and big crowds as the event moves towards the finals
Margaret River turned it on once more as amazing surfing was met with even better conditions at the Drug Aware Pro Margaret River presented by O’Neill.
With the 6-Star Prime Men’s and 5-Star Women’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) event moving towards the Finals, competitors responded accordingly with some spectacular surfing – treating spectators at Surfer’s Point to some electrifying action.
In the Women’s division, local surfer Claire Bevilacqua (City Beach, WA) was dominant in her early morning heat and again later in the day, progressing through to the Quarter Finals with a 12.27 score, defeating South Africa’s Roseanne Hodge (9.63) and the USA’s Lauren McSweeney (8.94).
Current WQS ratings’ leader, Sally Fitzgibbons (Gerroa, NSW) was again a standout easily winning through to the quarter finals where she’ll face a much anticipated match up with South Africa’s Rosanne Hodge.
Alongside Bevilacqua in the next round will be Sarah Beardmore (Dunsborough, WA) who continued her strong run throughout the event.
With the business end of the competition looming and both Finals to be played out tomorrow (Sunday, April 13), spectators will witness some amazing action and the crowning of two new champions.
