Dressage Grand Prix Freestyle

Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer (25) has pulled off a hat-trick of silver medals by taking second spot at tonight’s Dressage showcase event, the Grand Prix Freestyle at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. In front of a capacity 25,000 spectator crowd, she rode an amazing test using all her horse’s best attributes – piaffe, passage and pirouettes - to great effect against music from the Shadows. Laura’s triple silver medal partner, Dr Wilfried and Mrs Ursula Bechtolsheimer’s Mistral Horjis was declared “a complete star” by his rider after the test. Their score of 85.350% was a new personal best but was still not enough to beat the seemingly invincible Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas who broke 90% to score 91.800. American rider Steffan Peters was third with Ravel on 84.900%.

A delighted Laura, from Gloucestershire, commented; “We’ve performed above all expectations here. Each day I’ve built on my performance and tried hard not to let anything phase me. I need to go home and digest all of what’s happened here. Competing at these Championships is the pinnacle of the sport and I’ve come here and really made it happen – I’m just gobsmacked!”
