DRAGONS ROAR TO SILENCE THUNDER

After their recent thrilling match against Leeds Carnegie, Thunder's hopes
of doing the double over the Dragons this season were high. But the North
West side seemed lacklustre throughout the match, failing to challenge at
key moments during the game, and making too many unforced errors to allow
the Welsh side space and scoring opportunities.

Dragons player/coach Anna Mayes, introduced to the line up at the end of
the first period following an injury to Sophie Baxter, was inspired,
controlling the Dragons centre court and finding her shooters in space on
numerous occasions.

Despite the best efforts of Thunder captain Lisa Ferneyhough and Rachael
Jarman in defence, the height of Dragons Chrissy Munro and the clever
rotational play of GA Ffion Berry allowed the Welsh unit to keep the
scoreboard ticking in their favour, leading 26-18 by half time and 40-26
at the three quarter break. England U21 star Lindsay Keable joined the
Welsh line up at GK for the final period, but her introduction did not
interrupt the rhythm and control of the Dragons defence, and they took the
period 15-10 to take a valuable win.

With five weeks of competition remaining, the Dragons will be looking to
build on this result and move further up the table: next week, they face
a difficult challenge when they travel to Mavericks, who were in dominant
mood against Leeds.
