DRAGONS ADD FIRE TO ENGLAND’S EUROPEAN CHALLENGE

It is the first senior selection for both players, who are members of the England U21 long squad.

Essex and Keable are joined in the England squad by experienced internationals Sara Bayman, Jo Binns and Tamsin Greenway, all of whom took the court in England’s recent World Championships challenge in New Zealand. And the entire squad is focused on retaining its European title in style, as Nigel Holl, England Netball’s Director of Netball explains:

“Competition for places in the England squad for the Netball Europe championships was intense, and we are delighted that the selected squad shows such depth across the court. Netball standards are improving across Europe, and we are not underestimating any of England’s opponents in the forthcoming championships, which means we must send the strongest possible squad to contest the competition.

“The Netball Europe championships give emerging athletes a great opportunity to demonstrate what they can do on the international stage. England’s squad is young and packed with promise and I am confident that the players involved have a great future with England.”

The 15 players named in the England squad for the Netball Europe championships are:

Sara Bayman, Eboni Beckford Chambers, Jo Binns, Sasha Corbin, Kirsty Delves,

Stephanie Essex, Stacey Francis, Tamsin Greenway, Serena Guthrie, Jo Harten, Naida Hutchinson, Lindsay Keable, Alex Kirk, Sam Perry, Monique Wood

A final squad of 12 players to be coached by England’s 21 and Under Head Coach Lyn Gunson will be selected closer to the tournament, which takes place from 15 – 17 February 2008 in Scotland.
