European Championship Bronze Medallist, Jessica Oughton, won Double Gold at the weekend, as the Wild Water Racing World Cup Series began in Tasmania.
Oughton, from Leicestershire, took Gold in the Women’s K1 (Kayak Single) World Cup 1 Sprint Race on Saturday. Oughton, who won Bronze at the European Championships earlier this year, beat GB team mate Hannah Brown, 19 from Bradford on Avon, to first place, with a time of 03:27.18. The pair were joined on the Podium by Sabine Fusser, of Germany.
In Sunday’s action Oughton found herself in the top spot again, in the Women’s K1 World Cup 2 Classic Race. The 20 year-old fought off competition, from Fusser, to win her second Gold of the series, in 14:19.24. Oughton was, again, joined by GB team mate Hannah Brown in third place, with a time of 14:34.87.
The weekend saw the first two of six races in the Wild Water Racing World Cup Series. The tournament, which started on 24th October, will finish on 7th November. For more information visit www.wildwater.org.uk
