Denmark win The 2009 Women’s 17 European Championship


The 2009 Women’s 17 European Championship took place in Serbia from the 25th June – 5th July. Fifty-six matches were played in the sport halls of Nis and Vrnjacka Banja. The competition came to an end on Sunday in a final between Denmark and Russia in front of 1000 spectators.

With the final whistle the national team of Denmark defeated Russia to take the championship title in the third edition of the Women’s 17 European Championship. Goalkeepers Cecilie Greve from Denmark and Daria Vakhterova from Russia were named the best players of the match.

In the medal match Norway defeated former champions France to take third place. When the competition relaunched, Denmark took the title in 2005, France won in 2007 and now once again in 2009, the title will return to Denmark until the next edition of the tournament.
