Claire Rafferty has been forced to withdraw from the England Women’s squad that will take on France on Saturday.

The left-back suffered a knee injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Bristol Academy on 23 September and hasn’t been able to make a full recovery.

Hope Powell’s remaining 21 players will meet up later today to begin preparations for their last match of 2012.

England qualified for Euro 2013 after beating Croatia 3-0 in their final qualifier in September and Powell knows France will provide her side with a stern examination.

She said: “[France] are a rapidly improving team.

“They have made really good progress since the last World Cup and this is just the sort of game we need to see where we are at.”
