CZE - Horakova playing again
KOSICE (EuroLeague Women/FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament) - There was a very important development for the Czech Republic women's national team on Wednesday night.
The 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women MVP, Hana Horakova, played almost half the game for her new club Good Angels Kosice.
A two-time Olympian, the 32-year-old was missed as the Czechs finished fourth at last summer's EuroBasket Women in Poland.
She began the season with UMMC Ekaterinburg but suffered a metatarsal injury earlier this season.
Horakova decided it was in her best interest to leave the Russian team for the remainder of the campaign as their star-studded roster was not going to afford her many minutes.
"For me, what is most important is that I can play," she said, after joining Good Angels this week.
Horakova scored seven points, handed out two assists, came up with three rebounds and two steals in Kosice's 70-61 win over Lattes Montpellier on Wednesday night.
Right now, she is trying to find her rhythm, and help make a Good Angels squad that has surpassed expectations even stronger.
"At the beginning we started difficult," she said, "but we had the fighting spirit to overcome the difficult moments and it helped us to defeat tough opponents."
The experienced and skilful Horakova stands an excellent chance of returning to the national side for this summer's FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Ankara where five places for the London Games will be up for grabs.
