HAVANA (FIBA Americas Championship for Women) – Cuba have revealed plans to play in Spain, Poland, Slovenia and China before taking part in the FIBA Americas Championship for Women.
Alberto Zabala’s team narrowly missed out a spot at the Beijing Games after a silver-medal finish at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship.
The Cubans still had an opportunity to reach China at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women in Madrid where five places were on offer but Brazil beat Zabala’s team to the fifth and final spot in the last game of that event.
A top three finish at this year’s qualifying tournament in Brazil (September 23-27) will be good enough to clinch a place in the 2010 FIBA World Championship in the Czech Republic.
