Cox to miss England Tests

Australian Netball Diamonds goal shooter Catherine Cox has been ruled unfit for the Holden Netball Test Series against England after suffering a minor ankle injury at training ten days ago.

Despite playing a half of netball in the final test in Auckland, Cox’s ankle has not recovered as well as anticipated which prompted Diamonds coach Norma Plummer not to risk her long range shooter.

“The decision is based on the advice of our medical staff and we are disappointed that Cath will be unavailable for these matches,” Plummer said. “However her recovery process and longevity in the sport is a priority.”

Disappointed she could not play in front of a NSW home crowd; Cox took the conservative approach to the injury and will be back on court for Tests against New Zealand.

“If I had pushed myself I could have played, but I need to think long term and that is why this decision has been made, “Cox said.

“My ankle just needs rest and if pushing myself now puts my longer term goals at risk, then it isn’t worth playing.”

Cox was to be the acting on-court captain for the two England Tests and a decision regarding this role will be made during the Australian Diamonds training camp next week.

West Coast Fever and Australian 21/U towering goal shooter Caitlin Bassett has been named as the replacement player after her outstanding performances during the Australian 21/U tour of New Zealand.

Then Holden Netball Test Series will kick off in Newcastle on October 4 with great seats still available!
