To the delight of an impressive crowd at the final session of athletics in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Mandeep Kaur (IND) brought India home to a Gold medal in the Women's 4 x 400 m Relay.
Roared on by the passionate fans, India led virtually for the whole race with Manjeet Kaur handing over just ahead of England on the first leg, and Sini Jose and Ashwini Akkunji holding the advantage through the second and third legs.
It was left to Mandeep Kaur to hold off Nigeria's 400m Hurdles Gold medallist Muizat Odumosu and Nadine Okyere (ENG) on the final leg.
She was never threatened, however, and India took the Gold in three minutes 27.77 seconds, to Nigeria's 3:28.72 and England's 3:29.51.
Canada's Carline Muir just got past Sally Pearson who ran the final leg for Australia, on the line to take fourth.
