Commonwealth Games Call for Two Horizon Fitness Riders

Horizon Fitness Racing Team riders Alex Greenfield and Hannah Rich have both been selected to ride for Team Wales for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

The Welsh riders are part of a strong team and are really looking forward to the Games in October.  Current Welsh Road Race Champion Hannah Rich commented: ‘I’m so happy with my selection.  I’m really proud to be able to ride for Wales and be part of such a great team.  It’s been a great year for me so far.  I’m really proud to have been racing in the Welsh national champion’s jersey this season and this news just tops everything.’

Alex Greenfield, who is currently racing in Belgium and France with Horizon Fitness Racing Team, said the following: ‘This is going to be a great opportunity for me.  I’m really looking forward to racing in Delhi.  I hope to be travelling in great form and hope that I can be part of a very successful Team Wales.’

There are 8 gold medals up for grabs at the championship for women (6 on the track, and 2 road events).  The Games are in early October with the road race being held on 10 October.

Jon Johnston, Managing Director of Horizon Fitness, had the following to say on hearing the news of the selections: ‘I was delighted to hear of Alex and Hannah's selection to Team Wales and wish them all the best at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Horizon Fitness is very pleased that our investment in these young riders has been successful, and that our vision of creating a development team for future talent is already starting to work. Hopefully the girls will inspire other youngsters to get involved and take up sports.’

“Many of our riders have been working really hard for the opportunity to go to the Commonwealth Games this year.  They are building up to something that could be a once in a life time opportunity.  So when all of that sacrifice for the team, and the rider is rewarded with a selection, everyone is just ecstatic,’ added team manager, Stefan Wyman on the selections.

‘It’s a success for them, the team, and all those that have supported them.  All we can do is wish them well as they go to India as part of Team Wales.   I’m looking forward to watching them race out there.’
