Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars remain unbeaten at ICC Women’s World Cup

The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars have continued their winning streak at the ICC Women’s World Cup in India with a seven-wicket win over New Zealand at Driems Cricket Ground today. The win means that the Australian side is the only team not to have dropped a match at the end of the group stage of the tournament.

Meg Lanning claimed the player-of-the-match award after notching her fourth ODI century to guide her side to victory.

The start of the match was delayed due to heavy fog at the ground and once that cleared Australian captain Jodie Fields won the toss and sent New Zealand in to bat.

Megan Schutt (3-40) ripped through the New Zealand top order, claiming the key wickets of Lucy Doolan (9), Amy Satterthwaite (0) and Sophie Devine (9) in the first 10 overs. Wickets dried up in the middle of the innings as White Ferns opener and captain Suzie Bates (102) troubled the bowlers and notched a century before she was caught out off the bowling of Sarah Coyte (1-46) in the 49th over. She was well supported in the middle by Katie Perkins (41) as they built a 103-run partnership before Perkins was run out by Schutt. Big-hitting Nicola Browne also helped pile on the runs towards the end of the innings with her knock of 39*, which included six fours. New Zealand finished 6-227 at the end of their 50 overs.

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars opener Meg Lanning (112) was back to her best, with her impressive innings including 17 fours and one six. She combined well with 2013 Belinda Clark Award winner Jess Cameron (82), who hit 12 fours and one six, as the pair raced to a 182-run partnership.
The duo dominated the New Zealand bowling attack before Cameron was caught out off the bowling of Sian Ruck (1-47).

The Commonwealth Bank Stars will travel back to Mumbai for the Super Sixes phase of the tournament. They will face England on Friday at the Cricket Club of India. This match will be broadcast live into Australia on FOX SPORTS.
