Christine Ohuruogu confirmed for Super 8

Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu will captain London North at next month’s Super8 competition in Cardiff.  The exciting two-hour City versus City concept is being piloted in the Welsh capital next month and leading British athletes are giving their full backing to the idea.

Ohuruogu, who famously triumphed in Beijing last summer to add Olympic gold to her World Championship gold will lead London North into action against teams representing Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, London South, Glasgow, Sheffield and the host city at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium on Wednesday 10 June.

Ohuruogu said: "I am really looking forward to taking part in Super8 and representing London North. I think it is a brilliant concept!  I am a Stratford girl and being able to represent your nearest town or city is really exciting idea and will make for an exciting night."

Ohuruogu will be calling upon UK 800m champion Marilyn Okoro for strong backing in the North London team.  Okoro said: "It should be a great two hours of athletics, with a different range of athletics events to come and see. It will be high standard of athletics and a great way to kick off the season and in the long run towards 2012"

Olympic 400m hurdles bronze medallist Tasha Danvers was last week announced as London South captain, whilst UK Indoor 800m champion Jenny Meadows has also been confirmed as captain of Manchester last week. More big names will be announced in the coming days. Tickets are now on sale at £5 (seating) or £3 (standing) for adults, U16s are free, provided they are accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased at www.uka.org.uk/super8 or by calling the ticket hotline on 0844 844 0808.
