MOSCOW - Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal won the bronze medal in the women’s 10-metre synchro event on Saturday at the fourth stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit.
Wang Hao and Kang Li of China took the gold with 365.82 points with Noemi Batki and Tania Cagnotto of Italy second at 308.96 and Filion and Benfeito third at 295.05.
‘’Roseline and Meaghan did extremely well but it wasn’t their best,’’ said Canadian national team coach Trevor Palmatier. ‘’They had some trouble with the compulsory dives and their synchronization wasn’t bang on as it usually is. That allowed the Italians, who had simpler dives, to move into second spot.’’
In the women’s individual 10-metre tower final, Hao took the gold at 429.20, her compatriot Lao Lishi was second at 368.60 and Tatiana Perurina of Russia was third at 329.00. Benfeito, 18, took fourth spot at 311.05, her best ever senior level international result in the event. She was the world junior bronze medallist last year.
‘’Meaghan was excellent,’’ said Palmatier. ‘’She competed in four events this weekend and worked extremely hard. She was very tired today but did a really good job.’’
Fourth is no good enough
