Defender Rebecca Bulley has been recalled to the Australian Diamonds team, replacing the injured Julie Corletto for Sunday’s third Test of the Constellation Cup at CBS Canterbury Arena in Christchurch.
Bulley, who hasn’t seen court time so far this series, was named in Lisa Alexander’s 12-player team for the first Test against the New Zealand Silver Ferns in Melbourne last week before missing out on selection for Thursday’s second Test in Auckland.
“Rebecca comes in and she thoroughly deserves to be there, she was probably unlucky to be out on Thursday night so we’re really looking forward to her contributing,” Alexander said.
“The athletes are doing their best, they’re really working hard at training, I applaud them for their efforts.”
The inclusion of Bulley, following the return of Corletto to Australia for a knee procedure after the second Test, is Alexander’s only change as mid-courter Chelsea Pitman and shooter Susan Pratley miss out for the third Test.
While the Silver Ferns hold an unassailable 2-0 lead to claim their first Constellation Cup title since the trans-Tasman trophy’s inception in 2010, Alexander still sees Sunday’s third Test as “absolutely critical to win”.
“We need to show ourselves that we can do it when we put everything together and stick to what we’ve been committed to,” Alexander said.
The Australian Diamonds take on the New Zealand Silver Ferns in the third Test of the 2012 Constellation Cup on Sunday night at Christchurch’s CBS Canterbury Arena. The third Test can be seen live on FOX SPORTS, Telstra BigPond Sport TV and heard on ABC Grandstand Digital.
