BRYDON TOP CANADIAN IN GIANT SLALOM AT WORLD CUP FINALS

BORMIO, ITA (March 15th, 2008) – Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC) was the top Canadian finishing 21st in today’s World Cup Finals Ladies giant slalom while teammate Britt Janyk (Whistler, BC) was 25th.

Austria’s Elisabeth Goergl won today’s race in a two-run combined time of two minutes 24.96 seconds. However Italian Denise Karbon, who was eighth today, had already secured the Crystal Globe in the Ladies GS.

As for the men, it was Reinfried Herbst of Austria who captured today’s final slalom of the World Cup season, finishing with a two-run time of 1:51.31. There were no Canadians in the race.

Italy’s Manfred Moelgg walked away with the Men’s slalom Crystal Globe in dramatic fashion after France’s Jean-Baptiste Grange, who was poised to take the title, made a costly error just four gates from the finish in today’s race.

Catch comprehensive coverage of the FIS World Cup Finals on CBC’s Pontiac Alpine Ski Series on today beginning at 1 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. MT as well as Sunday starting at 5 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. MT. CBC will also air an encore presentation of the Pontiac Alpine Ski Series at 12:30 a.m. local time Monday.
