Netball - 29. January 2008.

When the two sides met earlier this season, Leeds were the winners by only
two goals.  However, this time around, Mavericks were simply sensational,
with Brownfield and her England colleague Karen Atkinson, also returning
to the side after the recent Netball World Championships, playing at a
devastating pace that the Leeds side could not counter.

The first quarter was a closely contested affair, with Leeds' Karen Greig
and Tracey Neville taking the challenge to the Mavericks defence.  At the
first interval, they trailed by a single goal, 14-15.  However,
combinations started to settle in the second period, and with Brownfield
netting goals from all over the circle, Mavericks moved away, to lead
29-22 at the half time interval.  Clare Elsley, another England
international and a new face in the Mavericks line up, was in devastating
form at C and combined well with her international colleagues Naomi
Siddall and Amanda Newton to close down the space available to the Leeds
attacking unit.

For the third quarter,  Mavericks coach Maggie Jackson moved Brownfield to
her more familiar GS position, and, supported by England U21 Monique Wood
at GA, the Mavericks attacking unit kept piling on the pressure.  Coach
Anna Newell introduced the experienced Louise Crolla to C for the second
half, to try to counter the pace of the Mavericks attack, but with
Atkinson now controlling the centre court, this was a thankless task.
Mavericks took the third quarter 15-12 and then ran away with the final
period 18-4 to keep their claim on a play off place very much alive with
only five weeks of the regular season remaining.
