BRITT JANYK NINTH IN BOMBARDIER WINTERSTART SUPER G

VanderBeek makes it two Canadians in Top 20 in Lake Louise

LAKE LOUISE, AB (December 2nd, 2007)

Janyk finished in a time of one minute 17.18 seconds to capture the fourth World Cup SG Top 10 of her career,

“I was shooting for the top of the podium and in Super G it’s anyone’s game. I know I’m skiing well and I know I’m right there with the top girls,” said Janyk, a two-time national Super G champion.

“I think we’re going to come out of this weekend with a really good energy and a lot of confidence. It always feels good to have the first races done so we’ll move onto Aspen now looking to continue with the good results,” she said.

Martina Schild of Switzerland earned the first World Cup victory of her career, winning in a time of one minute 16.21s. She was followed by German Maria Riesch and Jessica Lindell-Vikarby of Sweden.

Kelly VanderBeek (Kitchener, ON) crossed the finish line in 16th place.

“I’m skiing well, it’s totally in me and when I’m in the moment and I’m on the hill I’m second guessing myself a bit and you can’t do that, it’s too fast, the sport is done and you’re in and out faster than you can blink an eye so you can’t second guess,” said VanderBeek.

Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC) finished 34th while Sherry Lawrence (Calgary, AB) captured 36th. Larisa Yurkiw (Owen Sound, ON), competing in the first World Cup SG of her career, did not finish the race.

Today’s race concludes the Bombardier Winterstart event schedule. Canada’s Ladies alpine ski team now heads to Aspen, USA for a World Cup Downhill, Super G and Slalom races Dec. 7th to 9th while the Men’s team is next in action in Bad Kleinkircheim, AUT for a Slalom and GS Dec. 8th and 9th.
