BRITISH TAEKWONDO JUNIORS TRIUMPH IN AZERBAIJAN

The Great Britain Taekwondo Team which set-off to the European Junior Championships in Azerbaijan last week, today returned to the UK

In addition to these stellar individual efforts, Great Britain also enjoyed team success with their overall ranking at Junior level rising dramatically to second in Europe, lying only behind champions France who not only finished first in the overall rankings but topped the female category in a hugely competitive field.

Gary Hall, Performance Director for Great Britain, said: “In 2005 the Great Britain team finished 16th overall in the junior rankings and to have gone up by fourteen places in just two years is a unbelievable achievement. Although the boys had more success on the medal front this really was a team effort and each and everyone of them can go back to Britain feeling very proud of what they achieved over the past weekend. Britain have now proved that at both senior and junior level we can compete with the best in the world and in the build up to next year’s Olympics and then London 2012 it is now our challenge to see this talent flourish.”
