RUISLIP Eagles and Great Dane ladies look set to take this year’s English Women’s League title to the last game of the season, with both securing victories last weekend. Great Dane remain top of the table, but Ruislip have a game in hand and will leapfrog their rivals if they win their next game against Oxford University. But the Eagles did not have it all their own way in their match against Olympia. For large parts of the first half Olympia led as Ruislip made a slow start and failed to contain Olympia’s left wing and left back.
They found scoring tough against Olympia’s keeper, who saved several penalties to thwart their attempts to repeat their earlier win over Olympia. Olympia held a threegoal lead with five minutes of the first half gone, but Ruislip changed their defensive tactics and managed to claw their way back to level the scores 15-15 at half time. Ruislip came out for the second half more focused and started to find their fast break game with Sposi, Solomon and Kowalski exploiting the opportunities on the break and they gradually pulled away.
