BRITISH CYCLING ANNOUNCES TEAM FOR THE UEC EUROPEANTRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
British Cycling has today confirmed the female team selected to represent Great Britain at the forthcoming European Track Championships, taking place from 18 – 20 October in Apeldoorn, Holland.
Fresh from breaking the Team Pursuit world record at the recent National Track Championships, Elinor Barker, Dani King, Joanna Rowsell and Laura Trott will be joined by Scotland’s Katie Archibald to form the women’s endurance squad.
Current two-time World Champion Becky James, Olympian Jess Varnish and Vicky Williamson will contest the women’s sprint events.
Shane Sutton OBE, British Cycling’s Performance Manager, said: “The 2013/14 track season is now underway, and we are sending a full team out to Apeldoorn for the European Track Championships in preparation for the World Cup in Manchester just a couple of weeks after. It’s great to be able to welcome Katie Archibald to the team, and it’s testament to the programme that we are able to continue to develop and expand our squad and introduce talented new riders. It’s the start of the season, so we don’t know where we’re at compared to the rest of the world at this moment in time. However, we saw some strong results at the National Track Championships last week and we’re looking to be in good shape as a team so it will be interesting to see how that stands up against some international competition.”
