Sao Paulo, Brazil, September 27, 2008 - Natalia Pereira recorded 18 points, including five blocks, and Finasa-Osasco of Brazil defeated Centro Deportivo Nacional of Dominican Republic in straight sets on the first day of action of the International Clubs Salonpas Cup.
Pereira played a very consistent game all the way and was the key to the victory of the Brazilian squad 25-21, 25-22, 25-23.
In the first match of the day, Italian champions Scavolini Pesaro defeated Pinheiros-Mackenzie of Sao Paulo 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.
Middle-blocker Thaisa Menezes provided 12 points with six kills, two blocks and two aces while Adenizia da Silva contributed three blocks among her six points. Paula Pequeño also had half-dozen points.
Bethania de la Cruz was the top Dominican with 16 points and veterans Milagros Cabral and Cosiri Rodríguez each scored seven.
Argentine Carolina Costagrande was the best for Scavolini with 18 points, Brazilian Jacqueline Carvalho added 13 and Polish Katarzyna Skowronska and German Christiane Furst had 12 and 10, respectively. For the Sao Paulo team, Tandara Caixeta, Ligia Centeno and Thais Souza had 11 apiece.
Sunday's schedule features Finasa-Osasco against Kinder of Portugal and Brazilian Rexona-Ades versus Scavolini Pesaro.
