RIO DE JANEIRO (Women’s Campeonato) - Ourinhos have been crowned champions of Brazil’s Women’s Campeonato for the fifth time after edging Catanduva 82-80 after overtime in a fifth-game title decider on Monday.
Chuca led the victors with 26 points while Ariadna poured in 24 in defeat.
Ourinhos’ MVP, center Lisdeivi, said: "We have worked hard to clinch this title.
"We went through some difficult moments in the game but were able to change the situation and win. Catanduva have been a good rival."
Ourinhos coach Paulo Bassul, who is the coach of the Brazil women's national team, said: "Catanduva were brilliant.
"They showed great performances in every game. This title could have gone to either side.
"It was a great play-off final of high quality, with both arenas full of fans.
"Our fans were crucial. Even when we lost our third game, they still supported us. It's great to be able to return their support with this title."
