Bowls Australia-Murphy survives a thriller
World number six Karen Murphy has survived a thriller at the 2011 Australian Indoor Championships to book a quarter-final showdown with national teammate Kate Carriage.
Hoping to etch her name onto the coveted silverware for a fourth occasion, the Cabramatta superstar endured a few nervous moments against Castle Hill’s Debbie Howard before prevailing 6-4, 4-8, 5-1.
The second seed will now meet Carriage, the reigning NSW Indoor champion, in this afternoon’s fourth quarter-final after the Merrylands ace registered an impressive 11-3, 13-0 win against Bomaderry’s Marjorie Paterson.
In the remaining quarter-finals, Warilla’s Vicky Turner, who eliminated defending champion Katrina Wright late last night, will clash with Port Lincoln’s Jackie Field, Sunbury’s Chloe Stewart will lock horns with world number 13 Joyce Lindores and Castle Hill’s Helen Weissner will duel with reigning Australian Open champion Lisa Phillips.
During this morning’s second round, Phillips looked at her menacing best at Tweed Heads as she claimed all but one of the 13 ends required to register a 15-0, 9-1 demolition of Port City’s Anna Davidson.
