|ASPEN, Colorado (April 2) - Gretchen Bleiler (Aspen/Snowmass, CO) has had several dreams and this weekend her most recent, to bring together some of the most powerful women in snowboarding, will come to fruition on her home mountain as the inaugural CoverGirl Snow Angels Invitational kicks off Friday for a weekend of spring snowboarding in Snowmass.|
The Snow Angels Invitational will include photo shoots and competitions mixed together with showing the next generation a thing or two about going big. The event takes place during the last weekend of the eighth annual Bud Light Spring Jam festival.
Fifteen of the world's best snowboarders will attend including Bleiler, Olympic gold medalists Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT) and Kelly Clark (West Dover, VT), as well as Chevy Grand Prix podium performers Clair Bidez (Minturn, CO) Tricia Byrnes (Aspen, CO) and Ellery Hollingsworth (Stratton, VT), and U.S. Snowboarding staples Lizzy Beerman (Weston, VT) and Kaitlyn Farrington (Bellevue, ID).
"This event will be the perfect way to end the season and bring everyone together to ride, hang out and have some fun," Bleiler said. "The weekend is turning out to be even bigger and better than I expected thanks to the support of the sponsors and Aspen/Snowmass. I can't wait."
A session in the superpipe and quarterpipe kicks-off the weekend. Action continues at Snowmass on Saturday with a competition, which will include a jam session contest with full superpipe runs, followed by a one-hit contest awarding the rider with the best trick.
On Sunday, the athletes will have a photo shoot at the Snowmass superpipe and quarterpipe. Several pros will also teach the Snow Angels Terrain Park Boot Camp, which welcomes new rail and park riders (both skiers and snowboarders) to learn from top coaches and pros.
The weekend also features a welcome reception, spa activities, yoga, environmental workshops, cooking workshops and the Oakley Girls Night Out. A portion of the proceeds from the night out will benefit an environmental foundation of Bleiler's choice.
The final event of the GKA Kite-Surf season saw sparks fly on the water as Prea delivered four days of perfect strapless freestyle conditions and sensational action last week.
