Biles reacts after her victory in the WAG All-around final

DOHA: Comments from Simone Biles of the USA after she won gold in the women’s All-around final at Aspire Dome on Thursday evening.

On winning her fourth world All-around gold, despite falls on vault and balance beam:

“This one has probably been the hardest to get out of all my World Championships and Olympic medals, and the scariest one. It’s exciting to bring back a gold medal for the US, but for me it’s a bit disappointing because that’s not the performance I would hope to give.”

On her performance:

“It was a tough day. I didn’t know if I was going to pull it off today, and then I started doubting myself and I tried to track back to training and see how well that went. I tried to just think of that. You should always fall back on training because I’ve had such good training here.”

On her falls:

“I think I gave everyone out there a heart attack, but it is what it is. Even the best fall sometimes, but I’m excited that I pulled it out at the end. I was definitely shocked. Vault was very uncharacteristic, but I haven’t been as confident at these World Championships on beam as I have been in past competitions. So it’s a little scary going out there. Vault shook me up a little bit, but I tried not to get off-track and tried to focus on the other three events.”

On her thoughts during her floor exercise routine in the last rotation:

“I was like, ‘Well, today seems to be horrible, so let’s see what else can go wrong.’ Then I had to get those bad thoughts out of my head.’ I’m used to ending on floor, so that’s nothing new to me. I had to go out there and put on a good performance for myself.”

On recovering from her mistakes:

“It was definitely an off-day and I had to get back on track and try to find out what was going wrong, and not to think about that, and try to turn the page for the next event to come.”

On persevering after her falls:

“It was definitely hard trying to turn the page on those events and try to go to the next event and reboot, but it just happens.”

On her camaraderie with team-mate Morgan Hurd, the defending all-around champion, who won bronze:

“It’s very important to cheer for each other, because we’ve been training for this competition for so long. It’s very exciting to be out there with her, and we’re excited that we brought hardware back.”

On whether she will compete in the apparatus finals on Friday and Saturday, still coping with a kidney stone:

“Most definitely. We measure pain levels every morning and go into therapy. So far it’s been manageable.
