Bandits win shootout against Racers, 14-8
Coming off a 7-3 win against the Racers about an hour before tonight’s game, the Bandits were looking to take both games of a double header.
Vicky Galindo led off the game for the Bandits and was walked on a 3-2 count. With Galindo on first, Megan Wiggins hit a home run to center field, her second of the day to take an early 2-0 lead.
Sharonda McDonald led off for the Racers with a single up the middle and was brought home by Lisa Modglin who hit a triple to right field to cut the score to 2-1. Modglin then advanced home as Marder was put out to tie the game at 2.
Nicole Pauly hit a solo home run, her sixth of the season, to give the Racers a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first.
The first inning ended with a scary moment for the Bandits as Nikki Nemitz was hit in the leg with a line drive. Nemitz was helped off the field, but would not continue in the game.
In the second, the Bandits loaded the bases with after Tammy Williams was walked, Amanda Williams hit a bunt single and Shannon Doepking floated a single on the right field line.
With the bases loaded, Rhea Taylor, in her first NPF start, hit a single to center field to bring home Tammy Williams, tying the game at 3 and reloading the bases. Vicky Galindo then hit a single over the shortstop and Taylor Schlopy misplayed the ball in left field, allowing the Bandits to take a 5-3 lead.
Chanda Bell replaced the injured Nikki Nemitz at pitcher to start the bottom of the second inning.
Trailing 5-3, the Racers came storming back in the bottom of the third inning with two, two run home runs hit by Nicole Pauly, her second of the game, and Alicia Herron to take a 7-5 lead.
The shootout continued in the fourth as Wiggins hit her second home run of the game to cut the deficit to one run.
To lead off the top of the sixth, Vicky Galindo slapped a single to left field and stole second base as Wiggins struck out. Goler hit a single to center field bringing home Galindo to tie the game.
Later in the inning with the game still tied, Tammy Williams was at the plate with Patton on first and Vangie Galindo on second, pinch running for Butler. Williams hit a single to right field allowing Galindo to put the Bandits in front 8-7, but Patton was put out as she tried to score.
To start the bottom of the sixth inning, Monica Abbott entered the game to replace Bell.
In the sixth, the Racers’ Kelley Montalvo hit a double to the wall giving the Racers the opportunity to tie the game, but she was stranded on base as the inning ended.
The Bandits took control in the seventh as they loaded the bases as Adrienne Monka was walked, Vicky Galindo singled and Megan Wiggins walked.
The Racers pulled Lisa Norris from the game trying to hold the score at 8-7 as Erin Arevalo entered the game, but with the bases full, Goler was walked to make it 9-7. Kristen Butler followed with an RBI single of her own to make it 10-7.
Amber Patton then put the game away for the Bandits as she hit a triple to score Wiggins, Goler and Brittany Cervantes before advancing to home on the same play due to an error, giving the Bandits a commanding 14-7 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brianna Hesson hit a double and was later batted in, but the Bandits would close out the game and win 14-8. The Bandits successfully completed their first double header of the weekend, taking both games from the Racers.
