A three run third inning was all the Akron Racers would need to clinch the regular season finale against the Bandits, as they finished up the season with a 5-1 victory.

Akron starting pitcher, Hannah Campbell shut down the Bandits offense, facing off against Michelle Gascoigne of the Bandits.
A Nerissa Myers double in the third scored Ayumi Karino for the Racers first run of the game. They expanded their lead to three runs off a Bandits error.

Gascoigne and the Bandits shut them down until the seventh inning when they added two insurance runs to take a 5-0 lead off hits by Jessica Garcia and Jill Barrett.

Down to their final three outs, Megan Wiggins ended Campbell’s shutout with a solo home run to the bleachers in right field, her ninth of the season. A ground out to first ended the inning and secured the victory for the Racers.

Campbell earned the victory for the Racers, her sixth of the season, allowing just one run on seven hits with two strikeouts. Gascoigne suffered the loss, pitching all seven innings for the Bandits, giving up five runs on ten hits while recording seven strikeouts. She finishes the regular season with a record of 6-4.
With today’s loss, the Bandits finished up the regular season with a record of 30-18, good for second place in the league behind the 2014 regular season champion, USSSA Pride.

The team will now set their sights on the NPF Championship Series in Hoover, Ala., August 20-23. Chicago and Akron will face each other once again in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday, August 20 at 4:30 p.m. CT in a best of three series.
