British No.1 Elena Baltacha has been awarded a wild card into the main draw at the AEGON International.

World No.74 Baltacha comes into the event off the back of her best-ever clay court season having won her first round match at the French Open where she defeated American Sloane Stephens. She also reached the semi-finals of an ITF $100k event at Cagnes-Sur-Mer.

Baltacha, a member of Team AEGON, has a strong track record at the AEGON International having defeated 2011 French Open champion Na Li and Jie Zheng last year at Devonshire Park.

She said she was excited to be playing in the tournament which features 13 of the world’s top 20 WTA Tour players.

"I'm delighted to have the chance to play at the AEGON International," said Baltacha. “It's always nice to come back to a place where you've played well and there's nothing I love more than playing in front of a British crowd.

"This year's player field in Eastbourne is unbelievable and it's fantastic to be part of it. I can't wait to get started."

Baltacha broke into the world’s top 50 in September 2010, achieving her career-high ranking of No.49.

A combined ATP and WTA event, the AEGON International attracts a world-class field each year as highly-ranked players acclimatise to the grass courts ahead of The Championships, Wimbledon in London.

Daily ticket prices for the event start at £25. Tickets can be bought online or by calling +44 (0)844 2097350.
