Favourites emerge victorious from closely fought final against Netherlands

Germany won the first European Games Table Tennis gold medal after beating the Netherlands 3-2 in the women’s team final at Baku Sports Hall on Monday.

After going 1-0 down when Han Ying lost 3-0 to Li Jiao in the first match, the Germans levelled the tie when Shan Xiaona beat Li Jie 3-1.

Germany then won the doubles match 3-2 to take a 2-1 lead, before Li Jie's 3-0 win over Petrissa Solja ensured the outcome would rest on the final match.

Han’s 3-0 win over Britt Eerland secured the gold for Germany.

The Czech Republic had earlier won the bronze medal after a 3-1 victory over Ukraine.

After the exciting 5 set match from the Team Doubles, the Gold Medal Match is now live with Match 4 Jie Li playing for the Netherlands and Doubles winner Patricia Solja
