AUSTRIA’S MARLIES SCHILD EARNS SLALOM VICTORY AT “TELUS PRESENTS THE PANORAMA WORLD CUP”

PANORAMA, BC (November 25th, 2007) –

Schild, who was the leader after the opening run, won in a two-run combined time of one minute 39.95. She was followed by Sarka Zahrobska of the Czech Republic in second and and Croatian Ana Jelusic in third as two days of World Cup racing wrapped up in Panorama Mountain Village.

Anna Goodman (Pointe Claire, QC), finishing the first run in 35th, was the top Canadian.

“I was definitely hoping to be in the Top 30 today, I mean I was close but hopefully next time,” said Goodman, competing in just the sixth World Cup SL of her career. “We have a young team with a lot of work to do. But we have to keep pushing each other and some day we will get to where we want to be.”

Women’s team head coach Marjan Cernigoj said they were hoping to learn from the experience in Panorama and get better each race.

“We put a lot of young girls in for the experience. We did not have high expectations today,” Cernigoj said. “Anna Goodman is our best slalom skier at the moment and I think we saw really good skiing from her today,”

As for the other Canadian results in the first run Kate Ryley (Toronto, ON) was 50th while Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC), using the event as training for Super Combined races later this year, was 51st. Eve Routhier (Sherbrooke, QC) ended up 53rd
, Emilie Desforges (Montréal, QC) finished 57th and Kate Ryley ws 60th.

The Canadian Women’s team now heads to Lake Louise, AB for the “Bombardier presents the Lake Louise World Cup.” The opening training run is scheduled for November 28th.
