It is recognized as the sole Waterski authority by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). With an estimated 30,000,000 active participants and 52,000 competitors, the World Championships event dominates all in terms important calendar competitions.
The highly successful 2005 Waterski World Championships took place in Tianjin in China. All is now ready at the spectacular Linz-Steyregg Salmsee site in Upper Austria for the 2007 Waterski World Championships. Linz, Austria’s third largest City, was a Celtic settlement on the Danube before the Romans arrived. The Emperor Friedrich 111 spent his last years here when Linz was the most important city in the Hapsburg Empire. The City is twinned with many around the world, including Kansa City. The World Championships Opening Ceremony will be held in the Ceremony Hall of the Raiffeisen Landesbank on Monday, August 27th at 20.00hrs. The Preliminary Rounds will commence on Tuesday, August 28th at 07.30hrs. The Finals will start at 10.00hrs on Saturday, September 1st and continue on Sunday at 11.00hrs.
Waterski athletes from the following countries will compete. Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Mexico, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovakia, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan and USA. The Chief Judge will be Jeffrey Smith (USA) and the Assistant Chief Judge will be Peter Kuhn (AUT). All the Nautiques competition boats will be supplied by CorrectCraft who also supplied the boats in Tianjin in China, the Masters in the USA and the Moomba Masters in Australia.
The reigning Men and Women’s World Champions will again defend their titles in Slalom, Tricks and Jump. These are as follows : SLALOM, William Asher (GBR) and Regina Jaquess (USA), TRICKS, Nicolas LeForestier (FRA) and Mandy Nightingale (USA) and JUMP, Jaret Llewellyn (CAN) and Ageliki Andriopoulou (GRE). The top three national teams will also defend their TEAM TITLES – USA, France and Great Britain.
Newly elected IOC member and Emeritus Waterski President Andres Botero (COL) will join International Water Ski Federation President Kuno Ritschard (SUI) for what promises to be a spectacular World Championships in Austria.
