Australian Diamonds (78) defeat Scotland (22)

The Australian Diamonds have kicked-off their 2010 international season with a classy 56-goal win over Scotland. The new-look Diamonds side were out to impress in Glasgow with the Australians recording a polished performance from start to finish . Youngster Madison Browne made her international debut in the first quarter, recording her first Test cap in the wing attack position. With every player, except acting captain Natalie von Bertouch who was rested with a stomach virus, taking the court over the four quarters, the match will prove invaluable experience for coach Norma Plummer’s young squad as they prepare to tackle the world number three England in a week’s time. The Diamonds next match will be against Scotland on February 16.

Norma Plummer quotes

“We started a little bit slow but we had some new kids out there and they just needed to settle into the match. ”

“They came home strongly and really stepped up their defensive game and I was pleased with what they delivered.”

“Renae [Hallinan], Bec [Bulley] and Laura [Geitz] really had a lot of impact of the court and they really had standout games tonight.”

“It was an exciting milestone for Maddy [Browne] and she performed well. She was always an option and she was working hard on the combination with herself and Kim [Green] tonight.”
