PHOENIX (WNBA) - Australia’s Lauren Jackson dominated the EuroLeague Women this year while leading Spartak Moscow Region to the title and now she’s doing the same with the Seattle Storm in the WNBA.
Jackson, the MVP last year in America, had 30 points and nine rebounds on Thursday as Seattle hit back from a 52-37 deficit at half-time to win at the defending champions Phoenix Mercury, 87-83.
Swin Cash had 19 points and seven boards while her fellow Team USA star Sue Bird chipped in with 13 points and six assists.
Team USA’s Diana Taurasi, who with Jackson and Bird won the title in Europe with Spartak, finished with 23 points.
Emerging Team USA star Sylvia Fowles blocked four shots, scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds to fire the Chicago Sky past the Sacramento Monarchs at the UIC Pavilion, 87-77.
The New York Liberty won 79-60 at home over the Washington Mystics after dominating the visitors in the first half.
The Liberty led 23-10 by the end of the opening quarter and extended that to 46-25 by half-time.
USA international Janel McCarville, a EuroLeague Women star this season with Kosit 2013, sprained her thumb early in the third quarter and ended up playing less than 15 minutes for the Liberty.
