ARLY FORGARTY WINS FIRST CAREER PARA-ALPINE WORLD CUP PODIUM

Arly Fogarty (Montreal, QC) won the first IPC World Cup podium of her career today, highlighting another successful day for Canada that included nine podium performances and five gold medals.

The 24-year-old Fogarty stopped the clock at one minute 14.36 seconds in today’s super G in Abtenau, AUT to finish in third in the Ladies standing category.

“I knew I skied a lot better than yesterday. I felt surprised as I wasn’t expecting that but at the same time it is pretty realistic to be on the podium,” said Fogarty.

“I definitely feel I have improved a lot. We have been doing a lot of speed training and that has been very beneficial,” said the Montreal-based YMCA youth program coordinator.

Also in the Ladies standing category, Lauren Woolstencroft (Calgary, AB / North Vancouver, BC) finished 0.4s behind Germany’s Andrea Rothfuss in the super G. Woolstencroft fought back in the slalom portion of the super combined to win SC gold in a two-run combined time of 1:53.44.

In the Ladies sit-skiing category, Kimberley Joines (Edmonton, AB) added another two gold medals to her count, winning today’s super G and the super combined races. She now has won gold medals in five consecutive races.

In the Ladies visually impaired category, the duo of Carly Grigg (Victoria, BC) and guide Julie-Christine Roy-Ruel (Lachenaie, QC) took home bronze medals in both the super G and the super combined for the second consecutive day.

The IPC World Cup event in Abtenau, AUT ends tomorrow with another super combined race. The team will then travel to Queras, FRA for the second IPC World Cup event of the season January 13th to 20th.
