ANNA GOODMAN WINS AS CANADA SWEEPS PODIUM IN MONT STE. ANNE SLALOM

MONT STE. ANNE, QC (January 6TH, 2008) – Anna Goodman (Pointe Claire, QC) a week removed from the best World Cup Slalom performance of her career, won today’s Northwest Mutual Funds Coupe Nor-Am Cup slalom race in Mont Ste. Anne, QC. Goodman led the way as Canadians took each of the first four positions and six of the top eight.

For Goodman, the result is her first career Coupe Nor-Am Cup win and her fourth trip to a Nor-Am Cup podium. Three of her four podiums have come in Mont Ste. Anne.

Goodman had today’s fastest first and second run, finishing in a two-run combined time of one minute 46.42 to win by more than a second.

“It helped a lot,” said Goodman, of the confidence gained from her 29th place finish in a World Cup SL in Lienz, AUT last week. “I have a lot of confidence right now in my skiing and I knew I could win today.”

Goodman said she was extremely motivated after going out in the first run yesterday’s Nor-Am slalom in Mont Ste. Anne.

“Yesterday, I totally flipped and went out. I had a huge crash coming down the last pitch,” she said. “Every time that you crash, you just want to get back into it and ski solidly. I approached that section in a much smarter way today.”

Megan Ryley (Toronto, ON) finished second for the second consecutive day while Quebec provincial team ski racer Brittany Phelan (Mont Tremblant, QC), in 25th after the opening run, made up an unbelievable 22 positions with a terrific second run to finish the day in third.

The Coupe Nor-Am Cup race series travels to Sugarloaf, USA for Men’s super combined and downhill races Januayy 9th and 10th, 2008 as well as Ladies downhill, super combined and super G races January 9th to 11th, 2008.
