Andrea Petkovic wins decisive third point
Andrea Petkovic clinched victory for Germany in the Fed Cup Play-off tie against USA. In the match between the two No. 1s, she was a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 winner against Melanie Oudin to secure the German team the decisive third point to seal promotion back to the World Group containing the world’s top eight tennis nations. “The win didn’t come easy,” said the world No. 19. “After all the hype over the past few weeks. Starting on Monday, she will be concentrating on her first match in the Porsche Arena. Julia Görges and Sabine Lisicki are also in the field for Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
Sabine Lisicki added a fourth point when beating Christina McHale 6-3, 6-4. In the final match of the tie, Julia Görges and Anna-Lena Grönefeld won 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 against Liezel Huber and Vania King to wrap up the 5-0 win for the team captained by Barbara Rittner. With the match over the German team went on a lap of honour and bid farewell to the excited crowd in the Porsche Arena.
