Return of the Champions to pay tribute to success of 1988 Olympic Winter Games

CALGARY, AB (November 29th, 2007)

Kicking off this winter’s celebration of the successful 1988 Olympic Winter Games, members of the team including 1988 Downhill and Super G bronze medalist as well as member of the Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and Canadian Ski Hall of Fame Karen Percy(-Lowe), are the honoured guests of the annual Return of the Champions gala dinner on Friday. Others members of that memorable team included Laurie Graham, a six-time World Cup champion, 1992 Olympic champion and six-time World Cup medalist Kerrin Lee-Gartner, World Cup medalists Josee Lacasse and Lucie Laroche as well as Michelle McKendry, Nancy Gee and Kellie Casey.

“The contribution made by each of these athletes has left an indelible mark on ski racing in Canada that serves as a reminder to today’s ski racers of the excitement that is generated by an Olympic Winter Games hosted in Canada. Each of these athletes is to be congratulated for their contribution and is most deserving Return of the Champions honourees,” said Alpine Canada Alpin Chief Executive Officer Ken Read.

Karen Percy-Lowe will join Ken Read and Thomas Grandi in an autograph signing during a public event at Banff’s Cascade Plaza that will include a special presentation by ACA to the Canadian Ski Museum West, a display throughout Cascade Plaza that serves as a tribute to Banff National Park's historical contribution to Canada's skiing heritage as well as its important involvement in the future of this sport. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Return of the Champions gala dinner and silent auction gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Chateau Lake Louise. To purchase your ticket, available for $150 per person, please contact Cheryl Harris at (403) 815-5455.
