The 13-year-old from the English Ladies’ golf Association’s Select Midlands squad won both the U16 and U14 titles.
Alex, the Midlands ladies’ champion from Notts’ Ladies, was three-under par for the 72-hole tournament. Pat Smillie, ELGA’s national junior coach, said; “It was a fantastic performance.
“She birdied the first and the last holes of her final round but she just played very consistently throughout the tournament.”
English U13 champion Hannah Turland (Tidworth Garrison) was third in the U14s. “This was a very good result for Hannah. It’s the first time she’s played in an England squad and she returned a very creditable score,” said Pat.
Overall, she paid tribute to the performance of the ELGA squad at the championship, which shows much promise for the future. “We’ve got a lot of up and coming talent,” said Pat.
