Ai Fukuhara Wins Four Places in the World Ranking

Japan’s Ai FUKUHARA is on the way back to the top 20 of the ITTF Women’s World Ranking. The 20-year-old winner of the Morocco Open Hassan II moved from number 28 to 24 in the August ranking. Compatriot Sayaka HIRANO (no. 21) is still the best ranked player from Japan.

There were no changes in the top 20. China’s World and Olympic champion ZHANG Yining is number one, ahead of compatriots GUO Yue and LI Xiaoxia. Beside two months as number two in 2008, Ms. ZHANG has been on top of the ITTF Women’s World Ranking since 2003.

The best European players are LIU Jia (AUT, no. 14), LI Jiao (NED, no. 17) and Krisztina TOTH (HUN, no. 20).

World Champion Remains Number One
China’s WANG Hao, MA Long and MA Lin defended their respective top three positions in the August ITTF Men’s World Ranking. World champion WANG Hao will also be the top seeded player at the 2009 China Open to be held in Tianjin from 12th to 16th August.

Germany’s Timo BOLL is ranked fourth ahead of WANG Liqin (CHN) and Morocco Open winner Vladimir SAMSONOV (BLR).
