A Skate Odyssey from Nottingham to Belgium

Nottingham’s top roller derby team the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots have announced today that they will travel to Ghent in Belgium to take part in Skate Odyssey 2015.

Ten highly ranked European teams will take to the track across three days from the 15 – 17 May to battle it out in this Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) tournament.

Currently, teams invited to play include Ghent's home team, Paris (2014 winner), Dublin, Copenhagen and Oslo as well as some familiar UK faces such as Newcastle, Central City (Birmingham), and Middlesbrough.

Head of Training for the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots, Jo Scott said, “To take part in a WFTDA tournament has been one of our goals for a long time and we've been working hard to get noticed since we became full WFTDA members in December 2013.  I'm delighted that we can send such a strong team to show Europe what Nottingham has to offer.”

Getting the team to Belgium is an expensive business, so the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots are fundraising to help get their intrepid skaters and bench crew to Europe.  You’ll be able to see them all over the city as they participate in a range of activities including: car boot sales, pub quizzes, bag packing at supermarkets and in their biggest challenge… ‘Skate to SKOD’ where the team will be skating the 335 miles from Nottingham to Ghent!  Find out more at www.hellfire-harlots.co.uk/fundraising

You can also come and see the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots in action at their next home game against the London Rockin' Rollers at Nottingham Trent University's Clifton Campus on 11 April. Or become one of the team!  The Harlots are recruiting new skaters from 13 April, email [email protected] for more information.
