9th African Championships in Gymnastics

CAIRO (EGY) - LAUSANNE (SUI) FIG Office, : The 9th African Championships in Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics have revealed a field of new talent, and FIG President Professor Bruno Grandi couldn’t be more pleased. Also present at the opening of this event was Vice President Dr Michel Léglise (FRA) and Deputy Secretary General Nicolas Buompane.

Egypt was one up on South Africa and Namibia in Team events. The Apparatus Finals saw Egypt and South Africa battling it out in an extraordinary dual. To be highlighted the Gold medals on Beam and Floor, the Bronze on All Around of Salma Mahmoud (EGY). Her teammate Sherine El Zeiny won the Gold on All Around and Vault.  South Africa and Jennifer Khwela left Cairon with 5 medals: Silver on All Around and Beam, Bronze on Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor.

And one small Egyptian prodigy just must be mentioned; Sherine El Zeiny shamelessly secured the Gold on floor, vault and uneven bars, with a Bronze at beam to boot! Not far behind, Jennifer Khwela (RSA) showed unbelievable talent. A Silver at vault and uneven bars, and a Bronze on floor. The All-around title went to Sherine, with Jennifer 1st runner up!
