In 8 short weeks Caroline Puamau - Pickering will line up at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa. A seasoned competitor Caroline is planning to make a splash. Following birth of her daughter Jodie - Ana with husband Peni Puamau, Caroline thought long and hard about if she was ready to give up the sport she loves and has given her so much. After 2 years away from the competitive arena has decided that she still has plenty to offer!
Caroline is currently training 11 sessions each week, a combination of pool sessions and gym based circuits, boxing and weightlifting. A varied and interesting programme is a must for an athlete who has been in the sport for this long in order to create new training challenges.
Caroline will contest 10 events in Apia -
50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle
50m, 100m, 200m Backstroke
50m & 100m Butterfly
200m Individual Medley
Her key events will be the 50m and 100m Freestyle and Butterfly, where she will enter the meet ranked in the top 3. Caroline aims to post personal bests and break her current Fiji National Records. "I can't control how the other competitors will perform so I wont predict my medal chances, but my goal is to go out there and swim faster than I have ever swum before and if that happens I believe I will be in strong contention and satisified with my performance" says the voice of an experienced athlete.
Following the games Caroline plans to continue to compete in the Sport of swimming with an eye to achieving Olympic Games selection for Beijing. If successful this will be Caroline's 3rd Olympic Games.
Caroline has received generous corporate support from Mobil.
