4th Biennial QUIKSILVEREDITION-HAWAIIAN ISLANDS VINTAGE SURF AUCTION

Honolulu (Wednesday, June 20, 2007) - More than a quarter of a million dollars worth of cool, quirky and highly coveted surf items are locked in for next month's 4th biennial Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction, presented by Quiksilveredition, at the Blaisdell Center, Honolulu, July 20 & 21, 2007. Ranging from every surfer's nightmare - the jaws of a 15-foot great white shark, fully preserved, with all ferocious teeth in tact, to a collection of 1920s redwood surfboards that is expected to fetch more than $10,000 a piece, there are more than 100 items to bid for. A portion of all sales will go to the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Recent additions to the auction include a 1969 painting of Duke Kahanamoku, by Mary McRae Dukes, that will likely top the $10,000 mark (pictured below); a fully operational "Surf Champ" pinball machine from the '60s (pictured below); and a stunning collection of unpublished photographs, taken by veteran Australian surf photographer Jack Eden in 1963 at the Makaha International surf contest. This set of images includes iconic shots of the West Side, scenes of the Makaha International surfing contest that show thousands gathered on the beach, as well as visions of that early era.

There are a total of 70 surfboards spanning 100 years to go under the hammer. The cream of the crop is expected to be the 11'0" Buzzy Trent Model Surfboards Hawaii gun shaped by Dick Brewer, that will likely exceed $15,000. Icon boards of pro surfers Larry Bertlemann (Hawaii), Gerry Lopez (Hawaii), and former world champions Shaun Tomson (South Africa), Margo Oberg (Hawaii) and Mark Richards (Australia) are also expected to draw high bids.

A few spots are still being held open for select items from the "Antiques Roadshow"-style appraisals that will take place between 12 noon and 4 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2007. Members of the public are invited to bring in their personal surf-collector items for a free, professional appraisal.

Those outside of Hawaii will still be able to bid via the live online auction on Ebay. There will also be a silent auction featuring 100 smaller collectibles that include trophies, surfwear, posters, decals and photos.

This week's "Peek of the Week" can be previewed at www.hawaiiansurfauction.com, along with complete information about bidding and other auction details.

The Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction will run in conjunction with the All-Collectors Show 2007 at the Blaisdell Center.
